Summer Song

A deep breath in, the lungs expand.

Hold briefly just for a moment.

A moment long enough to steady  my heartbeat and allow my ears to tune into the surrounding sound.

Exhale and leave the work day behind.

A walk around the block to rest my mind.

Footsteps beat gently against the pavement in rythm with the jingling of the dog collar.

The wind whispers gently in my ear, “Enjoy the last moments of summer.”

The orchestra of crickets play a long sad song.

Summer is ending and the street welcomes fallen acorns.

The sun sets behind a curtain of clouds.

The bird sings in an alto voice to call all her loved ones home.

Children bounce a basketball and shuffle their feet to make a basket.

Freedom of summer slowly ends as the turn of the calender page to the month of September.

Summertime bliss, summertime will be missed.
